If you see an account on CS, Tumblr, or most other websites named "benevolentwanderer", or an account named "Bennie" on Furvilla, Flight Rising, or another site with a low cap on the number of characters you can put in a username, it is probably me.

I pretty much don't look at DA anymore, although I do miss those of you I don't follow on other sites! Unfortunately, being a math+biology major comes with a really stiff workload, so I can only keep up with so many places in one day. (If anyone would like to meet some certified Mad Science Axolotl, though, I have pictures to share.)

Due to changes in DA policy, I no longer post non-derivative content on this account, and thus don't check it very often. I think I've posted this message like six times already, but anyway. Here it is again.

So, it's been a pretty eventful... long time... since I last was on dA. There are over ten thousand deviantWatch notifications in my inbox - hwoof, that's gonna be hard to sort through.

Anyway, for any of you who were wondering how I'm doing, the short rundown is:

1. In college now. It's great. I'm going for a Biology major/ Art minor/major/ math minor trio of terror. (I found out yesterday that I'm actually 2/5ths done with the math minor and immediately seized the opportunity...)
2. Also have a designated cuddlebuddy, which is pretty great.
3. Found out (after a long talk with various school councilors) that the reason that I'd been feeling like someone had replaced all my emotions with the diet versions was because........ well yeah, that's pretty much exactly what 'depression' is, as it turns out! Through several miracles of modern medicine, it turns out that there's a drug out there that does depression, anxiety, and migraines all in one fell swoop, AND it looks like it's actually working - I've just hit the 4 week mark that it takes to determine that, and I've actually been feeling excited about life. It's great!
4. I'm still mostly active on tumblr, but I'll be dropping by here more often to post stuff and say hi.

I'm very active over on tumblr nowadays (if you want to see it, click that link and then the bar at the top of the page). While I don't plan on phasing out my DA, deleting any of the art I have here, etc. etc. etc., this site really just serves as a portfolio/archive for me. Part of the reason I haven't been posting is that most of my current art is going toward an AP portfolio, which means I'm not allowed to show it elsewhere until that's all over and done with.

At some point between my last journal entry and now, I became a legal adult. Yay!!! I also got accepted to college ... but not the one I most truly desired, oh well. I'll have another shot at living in Boston later, I guess.

Artwise... nothing really. I'm working on a novel, but haven't put much time in since nanowrimo, my painting skills are on hold, and my photography is single-minded-let's-pass-this-exam.

I'm running a little contest to generate a community-created color palette! If you have ten minutes, an idea, and a program with a color picker/brush tool (or paint and a good scanner, for that matter) you can enter. There are prizes!
Rules:
1. 10 swatches/palette. Entries with too few or to many will not be accepted.
2. Must be sorted light -> dark
3. May not be a strict gradient transition - examples below!
4. Multiple entries + more chances to win something. Attempts too similar to your previous entries will, however, be denied.
5. Entries on Tumblr are separate for prize-related purposes, but not for rule #4.
6. All contributors to the collected palette will receive credit wherever it is published. Any entrants who were, for whatever reason (ex. If I got ten palettes that are lemon yellows -> lime greens -> rust reds I'm probably not going to include all of them) not included WILL get an honorable mention right below that section
7. Submissions must be in the form of an image file with areas of color larger than 10x10 pixels, in the correct order (re: #2) For aesthetic reasons, you may include the 1st or 10th color as the background rather than as a swatch. You must link to this journal in the comment.
8. You do not need to be watching me to enter.

fav.me/d4uihxu - the one I use, and the general concept I used to generate the rules for this contest. Things to think about: which sets do you like? Which do you dislike? Why?

fav.me/d5dwwny - out of order, would need a few lighter colors to be truly excellent

Prizes!
- Grand prize: Goes to the best overall palette. One fullcolor digital painting of... whatever
- RNG prize: Picked from the list of entries with a random number generator. One rough painting, using the colors of the selected palette.
- All entrants: Credit on the color palette, and a chance to smugly watch as other people use your genius on their art.
- Everybody: A good, organized, free palette to use on their paintings/cellshading/etc.
